The Curator’s Note:
Katsushika Hokusai is a household name for his "Great Wave," but his botanical studies reveal a different side of his genius—one of quiet, obsessive observation. In the Busshukan (Buddha’s Hand Citron), Hokusai elevates a strange, finger-like citrus fruit into a sacred architectural marvel. While European masters of the same era were focused on lush, heavy oil bouquets, Hokusai used the crisp precision of woodblock printing to find the soul of a single subject. This mug celebrates that minimalist power; it’s a reminder that beauty doesn't always need a vase—sometimes, it just needs a master's line.
This Busshukan (Buddha’s Hand Citron) is an intriguing mystery. It bears a seal attributed to the famous Katsushika Hokusai, though many scholars believe it was actually created by an unknown painter and later enhanced. I included it in The Floral Gallery because the skill is obvious, regardless of who the artist was. The painting connects the Himalayas and the West, transforming an unusual fruit into something nearly architectural and sacred. It shows that natural beauty can stand out on its own, without a well-known name.

Preserving the Masterpiece
To ensure the striking pigments of the Floral Gallery remain just as vivid as the day they were printed, we recommend the following care for your 15oz vessel:
-
The Tender Touch: While our ceramics are premium and durable, we recommend hand-washing with a soft sponge and mild soap to preserve the fine details of the ink-work over time.
-
The Modern Ease: Your mug is dishwasher-safe (top rack recommended) and microwave-safe for your daily rituals.
-
Temperature & Grace: Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemical cleaners, which may dull the archival-quality finish.
