The Curator’s Note:
The Details
Mastery: What makes this amulet special is its "anatomical synthesis," or the smooth combination of human and falcon features. You can see the horizontal cosmetic line from the human eye, along with the vertical tear-mark and diagonal spiral from the falcon. The triangular markings on the right side show that this is a later Ptolemaic design. By using the Met Open Access Archive, we have preserved these particular hieroglyphic features, so the "soundness" of the genuine sacred geometry is evident in every line.
Artist: Unknown (Ancient Egyptian, various periods)
The Original: A stylised amulet, often crafted in gold or vibrant blue faience, representing the healed eye of the god Horus after his battle with Set.
The Vessel: 11 or 15oz premium ceramic. Weighted for a comfortable hold, capturing the sharp, symbolic linework and the deep "Egyptian Blue" tones common to these sacred objects.
Preserving the Masterpiece
To ensure the sharp iconography and ancient pigments of the Graphic Archive remain just as vivid as the day they were first fired, we recommend the following care for your 15oz vessel:
-
The Tender Touch: While our ceramics are premium and durable, we recommend hand-washing with a soft sponge and mild soap to preserve the fine, symbolic outlines over time.
-
The Modern Ease: Your mug is dishwasher-safe (top rack recommended) and microwave-safe for your daily rituals.
-
Temperature & Grace: Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemical cleaners, which may dull the archival-quality finish and the graphic symbol's clarity.
